EP Review: Pregnant Whale Pain – Blank

Blank is an EP from a Hungarian mathcore act Pregnant Whale Pain, released independently in January.

pregnant-whale-pain-blankThe EP kicks off with “How to Ruin Her Makeup,” which is arguably the most technically mind-blowing number on the EP, although there are quite a few of these throughout the release. The atonality is there along with rawness. Although mathcore is on its full with this piece, the band occasionally steps forward experimentation, involving other stylistically different elements in their music. “Blank Long Nights Kill Romance Vengefully’ lulls you with soothing voice of Krisz Horvath and underlying melody before progressing into a cannonade made of heavy riffs, pounding rhythm section and screams.

Blank is a clusterfuck of face melting guitar work and sheer experimental, progressive metal and mathcore influenced madness. Upon listening to this EP, you’ll quickly come to realize the potential of this young Hungarian act. Get it from Bandcamp.
